The activity avoids introducing the topic through lengthy grammatical definitions. Instead, students first work with short, concrete sentences, gradually developing the terminology needed to analyze sentence structure.
In the first question, for example, the sentence “Marcos opened the window” is accompanied by an illustration of the situation. Students only need to identify which word indicates the action. This allows their first contact with the concept of a verb to occur through its function within an understandable context.
Next, the sentence “The students organized the classroom” is used specifically to explore the predicate. In the following question, two situations involving the character Ana allow students to compare “Ana is worried” and “Ana studied for the test”, distinguishing between a linking verb and a meaningful verb.
On the second page, the level of difficulty increases. Using the sentence “Carlos bought a book,” students must independently complete the fields SUBJECT, PREDICATE, and VERB, without ready-made answer choices. This visual organization helps students understand that the same sentence can be analyzed by identifying its different grammatical components.
The final questions introduce verbal predicates and nominal predicates. The material itself provides a simple reference — action for the verbal predicate and a characteristic or state for the nominal predicate — which students then use to classify different sentences.
