Important information for teachers:

The activity begins with a visual summary, avoiding the presentation of all concepts in one long block of text. Students first learn that invertebrate animals do not have a backbone and that they can live on land, in water, or in other environments.

The groups are presented separately and always accompanied by images. Insects, for example, are represented by a butterfly, ant, bee, and beetle and are associated with the characteristic of having 6 legs. Arachnids, represented by a spider and scorpion, are associated with 8 legs. Mollusks are associated with soft bodies, while worms are presented as having long, soft bodies.

The summary then introduces echinoderms, cnidarians, and poriferans, with examples such as starfish, sea urchins, jellyfish, coral, sea anemones, and sea sponges.

After the summary, the questions begin with visual recognition. Students observe four animals and circle those that do not have a backbone. Next, they identify insects among different images.

The third question combines Science and literacy through a word bank. Using the options MOLLUSKS – SOFT – OCTOPUS, students complete a sentence connecting snails and octopuses to the mollusk group and the characteristic of having soft bodies.

Next, students use a concrete characteristic — “its body is long and soft” — to identify the earthworm among different animals. They then match images to the groups Insect, Arachnid, Mollusk, Crustacean, and Cnidarian.

The final question presents a word search with visual support. Students search for the names of different invertebrates using the animal images themselves as references, integrating Science content with word recognition and reading practice.
