WATCH THE VIDEO OF THE COMPLETE ACTIVITY

⚠️ This material is an adapted English Language activity specially designed to teach the Future Continuous to students who are still developing literacy skills or who need greater visual, linguistic, and motor support.

Number of questions in the activity:

Visual and bilingual summary + 6 adapted questions + complete answer key, distributed across 4 activity pages.

The activity uses strategies such as guided coloring, matching images with actions, arranging word cards, comparing scenes, tracing a dotted sentence, and a word search, allowing students to participate even when they still need support to read the instructions.

Target audience:

The material can be used in middle school and, depending on the student's curriculum adaptation needs, also in high school. The material presents the Future Continuous as a learning objective within the thematic unit Grammatical Knowledge.

It may especially support students with mild to moderate Intellectual Disabilities, Down Syndrome, and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as students who are developing literacy skills or experience difficulties with reading and writing.

It is particularly suitable for students who understand more than they can independently express in writing, as it allows them to demonstrate learning through coloring, matching, selecting, arranging, and finding words, reducing reliance on spontaneous writing.

Content covered:

The material presents the Future Continuous as a verb tense used to describe an action that will be happening at a specific time in the future. The summary uses the example “I will be studying at 8 p.m.” – “Eu estarei estudando às 20h.”

It also presents the affirmative, negative, and interrogative structures, as well as rules for adding -ING to verbs, using examples such as WATCH → WATCHING, MAKE → MAKING, LIE → LYING, and RUN → RUNNING.

At the same time, the activity uses English content itself to develop skills such as visual discrimination, recognition of word parts, vocabulary expansion, organization of words and sentences, and motor coordination.

Important information for teachers:

The first question combines English, literacy development, and visual perception. Students observe the words STUDYING, PLAYING, and WORKING and color only the -ING suffix green. This allows them to begin by visually recognizing a common part of the words before being required to produce or conjugate verbs.

In the second question, students observe an image of a young woman sleeping and choose, from WORKING, SLEEPING, PLAYING, and EATING, the word that corresponds to the action shown. The activity encourages the association image + meaning + English word.

In the third question, the Portuguese sentence “Estarei estudando.” appears alongside an image of a student. Instead of having to write the entire sentence in English independently, students receive the cards I – STUDYING – BE – WILL and arrange them in the correct order. The answer key presents I + WILL + BE + STUDYING.

The fourth question uses two scenes to explore the meaning of the Future Continuous itself. In Scene A, Pedro marks on a calendar that he is going to study tomorrow. In Scene B, at 8 p.m. the following day, Pedro is actually studying. Students identify which image represents an action that will be happening in the future and then trace the dotted sentence “HE WILL BE STUDYING.”

In the fifth question, a girl is shown eating. Students receive the cards EATING – SHE – BE – WILL and arrange them to complete the sentence corresponding to “Ela estará comendo.” The expected answer is “SHE WILL BE EATING.”

Finally, the sixth question presents a word search containing four verbs and their respective -ING forms. Students search for RUN/RUNNING, LIE/LYING, MAKE/MAKING, and PLAY/PLAYING, for a total of eight words. In addition to reviewing the grammatical content, the activity develops visual scanning and word recognition.
