Content covered:

The activity introduces the concepts of prejudice, discrimination, and segregation through concrete and visually recognizable situations.

Prejudice is explored through a situation in which someone judges another person without knowing them. Discrimination is presented when a student is excluded because of her religion. Segregation is represented by a rule requiring students from different racial groups to attend separate schools.

In addition to sociological concepts, the activity develops early literacy skills such as vowel recognition, completing words, connecting spoken and written language, visual discrimination, and graphomotor coordination.

The material also addresses respect, friendship, helping others, inclusion, and social participation, emphasizing the importance of seeking support when facing prejudice.

Important information for teachers:

Before the questions, the material provides guidance encouraging teachers to read the texts and instructions aloud, present written word models, and help students connect spoken language with written words. This support allows students to engage with Sociology content without requiring independent reading skills.

In the first question, students observe two scenes from a school activity. In the first scene, a student using a wheelchair remains away from the table; in the second, the student participates alongside classmates. The task is to select the scene in which everyone participates in the activity. In this way, the concept of inclusion is introduced through visual comparison, allowing teachers to discuss how participation means having genuine opportunities to be included.

In the second question, students receive the vowels A, E, I, O, and U and three words with missing letters: RESPEITO (RESPECT), AJUDA (HELP), and AMIZADE (FRIENDSHIP). Each word is accompanied by an image related to its meaning. Students fill in the missing vowels, developing letter recognition, awareness of word structure, and vocabulary related to positive social interactions.

In the third question, Rui makes a judgment about Ana without knowing her. The image illustrates the situation, and students are presented with two words written in dotted letters: PRECONCEITO (PREJUDICE) and AMIZADE (FRIENDSHIP). The task is to trace the word that represents Rui's attitude. This connects a sociological concept to a concrete situation while developing word recognition and graphomotor coordination.

In the fourth question, a student is excluded because of her religion. Students observe the scene and circle the word that represents this action, choosing between COOPERAÇÃO (COOPERATION), DISCRIMINAÇÃO (DISCRIMINATION), and ACOLHIMENTO (WELCOMING). The activity helps students distinguish discriminatory behavior from actions associated with support and inclusion.

In the fifth question, an image shows students from different racial groups being required to attend separate schools. Students identify this practice as SEGREGAÇÃO (SEGREGATION) by choosing between two options: PARTICIPAÇÃO (PARTICIPATION) and SEGREGAÇÃO (SEGREGATION). The activity uses a visual representation to make a social concept more concrete and accessible than a definition alone.

Finally, in the sixth question, students complete a maze with a classmate on one side and a teacher on the other. The instructions explain that the classmate has experienced prejudice and ask students to trace a path to the teacher to seek help. This activity develops visual-motor coordination, path planning, and recognition of an appropriate response to prejudice.
