⚠️ This material is an adapted Mathematics activity designed to introduce and support the understanding of basic matrix concepts, especially rows, columns, matrix order, and the location of elements.
4 adapted activities, organized in a visual, objective, and progressive sequence to introduce the topic of Matrices.
The activity begins by helping students identify rows and columns in a matrix. Students then learn how to determine the order of a matrix, locate an element according to its row and column, and understand the notation used to represent the position of matrix elements, such as B₂₁, C₁₁, C₁₂, C₂₁, and C₂₂.
Students in High School who are beginning the study of Matrices or who require curriculum adaptations to understand the fundamental concepts before progressing to matrix operations and more complex topics.
The activity is especially suitable for students who benefit from greater visual support, objective instructions, step-by-step learning, and smaller amounts of information presented at one time. It can be used in the general education classroom, tutoring, or Specialized Educational Support (AEE).

This adaptation was designed so that students do not begin the study of Matrices directly with symbolic mathematical notation.
In the first activity, students observe a matrix and use visual cues to understand the meaning of row and column. From there, they count the number of rows and columns and determine the order of the matrix.
Once this spatial organization has been established, the activity moves on to locating individual elements. In activity 2, students identify the number located in the 1st row and 3rd column of matrix B.
The next activity explicitly introduces the notation B₂₁, showing that the first subscript indicates the 2nd row and the second indicates the 1st column. Only after receiving this support does the final activity ask students to independently locate C₁₁, C₁₂, C₂₁, and C₂₂.
