The activity begins with the composition of the atmosphere and progresses to identifying and differentiating its five main layers, as well as understanding the relationship between altitude and atmospheric pressure.
Throughout the activities, students work with the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere, gases found in the atmosphere, phenomena that occur in each layer, the ozone layer, meteors, auroras, artificial satellites, and atmospheric pressure.

The learning sequence does not require students to memorize all the characteristics of the five atmospheric layers at once.
On the first page, students begin by identifying carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen, and argon as components of the atmosphere. Next, they organize the five atmospheric layers beginning with the one closest to Earth's surface and identify phenomena that occur in the troposphere, such as rain, winds, cloud formation, and storms.
Students then connect each atmospheric layer with one of its main characteristics: troposphere → rain and clouds; stratosphere → ozone layer; mesosphere → meteors; thermosphere → auroras; exosphere → artificial satellites.
The activity also includes an illustration showing different elevations in a mountainous region to visually explore the relationship “the higher the altitude, the lower the atmospheric pressure.” Finally, students complete a short challenge using three clues to identify the mesosphere, reinforcing knowledge introduced in previous activities.
