Before beginning the activities, students have access to a two-page visual summary explaining that invertebrate animals do not have a backbone and introducing eight groups: Insects, Crustaceans, Arachnids, Mollusks, Worms, Echinoderms, Cnidarians, and Poriferans. Each group is presented with animal images, examples, and selected characteristics to support comprehension.

The activities then reinforce this information through tasks such as tracing words, identifying images, marking answers with an X, completing sentences using a word bank, counting and writing numbers, and matching animals to the environments where they may live.

Target audience:

Students in Elementary School, Middle School, and, when curriculum adaptations are required, High School, especially those who are in the literacy process or have not yet fully developed reading and writing skills.

The material may also be suitable for students with Mild to Moderate Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Down syndrome, and students in the literacy process, particularly when they benefit from visual support, reduced written-response demands, and assistance from another person when reading instructions.

This adaptation was designed so that reading and writing difficulties do not prevent students from participating in Science learning.

For this reason, the material does not rely exclusively on traditional written questions. Students can demonstrate what they have learned through images, matching, identification, counting, marking, and connecting, while instructions can be read aloud by an adult when necessary.

The summary can also be used as a reference during the activities themselves. For example, students first learn that insects have 6 legs and arachnids have 8 legs. Later, they apply this information by observing an ant, earthworm, butterfly, and spider and recording the number of legs each animal has.
