WATCH THE VIDEO OF THE COMPLETE ACTIVITY
⚠️ This material is an adapted Physics activity designed to introduce Electrical Energy Consumption and Electrical Power in a visual and accessible way. The questions begin with concrete everyday situations and use familiar electrical appliances to help students understand relationships such as appliance turned on → energy consumption, longer operating time → greater energy consumption, and higher watt value → greater electrical power.
6 adapted questions + complete answer key, distributed across 3 activity pages.
The activity begins with recognizing objects that require electrical energy to operate and gradually progresses to open and closed circuits, appliance operating time, identifying appliances that are turned on, electrical power, and comparing and ordering values in watts.
The material can be used in middle school and, depending on individual curriculum adaptation needs, also in high school. The material includes BNCC-related skills from the thematic unit Matter and Energy, with Electrical Energy Consumption as the main topic of study.
It may especially support students with mild to moderate Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Down Syndrome, as well as students who are developing literacy skills or experience difficulties with reading and writing.
This activity is particularly useful for students who understand more than they are able to express in writing, as it allows them to demonstrate learning through observation, selection, counting, comparison, marking, and ordering without depending on lengthy written responses.

The activity explores electrical energy, electrical energy consumption, electrical appliances, open circuits, closed circuits, operating time, electrical power, and watts (W).
It also develops important relationships for an initial understanding of the topic, such as the fact that an appliance that is turned on uses electrical energy and that, when comparing two appliances with the same power rating, the one that remains on for a longer period consumes more energy.
In addition to Physics, the activity develops skills related to literacy, word recognition, reading numbers, counting, numerical comparison, ordering, and fine motor coordination.
The activity begins with a very concrete situation. In the first question, students observe a banana, television, light bulb, ball, fan, and electric shower and circle only the objects that require electrical energy to operate. This allows them to recognize the presence of electricity in everyday objects before working with numbers or more abstract concepts.
In the second question, students observe two circuits with light bulbs. They identify which light bulb is consuming electrical energy by visually distinguishing a closed circuit from an open circuit.
The third question introduces the relationship between operating time and energy consumption without requiring calculations. Pedro leaves a fan running for 1 hour, while João leaves another fan with the same power rating running for 5 hours. Students trace the name of the person whose appliance consumed more energy.
This question is important because it allows students to intuitively develop an idea that can later be expressed mathematically: when power remains the same, the longer an appliance operates, the greater its energy consumption.
In the fourth question, students observe a living room scene and count how many electrical appliances are turned on and using energy, integrating visual interpretation, Physics, and counting skills.
The final two questions introduce electrical power. First, students compare a 10 W light bulb and a 100 W fan, identifying which appliance has the greater power rating. The material itself explains that the number followed by the letter W (watt) indicates the electrical power of the appliance.
Finally, students observe a 10 W light bulb, a 150 W television, and a 5000 W electric shower and arrange the values from greatest to least. In this way, they simultaneously practice electrical power, reading numbers, and numerical ordering.
✅ Explores Electrical Energy Consumption and Electrical Power through concrete everyday situations.
✅ Provides different response formats: circling, marking an X, tracing words, counting, comparing, and ordering.
✅ Integrates Physics, literacy, and mathematical skills while keeping students engaged with the curriculum content studied by the class.
✅ Uses large text, UPPERCASE LETTERS, prominent images, and minimal written-response requirements.
✅ Introduces electrical power gradually by connecting an image of the appliance + numerical value + W unit.
✅ Includes BNCC-related skills and a complete visual answer key.
